MONDAY'S GAME VS. SAN DIEGO: Not much of a game yesterday as the Cubs lose 1-0 to the Padres. The one good sign was Ryan Dempster bounced back from a crummy performance vs. Arizona to pitch 6 innings, give up four hits, strike out seven, and with the one run allowed being unearned.
CARLOS LEZCANO AWARD: The Carlos Lezcano Award for poor performance by a Cubs outfielder to Jeromy Burnitz. Burnitz made an error when he dropped a fly ball which eventually allowed San Diego to score the run they needed to win the game. At the plate Burnitz went 0 for 4 with three strikeouts.

SUNDAY'S GAME VS. MILWAUKEE: After the Cubs fell behind early during another unimpressive outing by Greg Maddux it looked like the Cubs might be going down to another series defeat but they came back to tie the game 5-5. I did not have a good feeling about this game when Corey missed a sign to run in the sixth which likely cost us a run. I was starting to think we were going to blow it when they Cubs had chances to win the game in the 10th and 11th innings but could not get the winning run in. But sure enough they did in the 12th to win 6-5.
The bad news to come out of Sunday's game was Todd Walker injuring his left knee. The only silver lining is that it is not a season ending injury as had been feared, but will put Walker out for four to six weeks. Second baseman Mike Fontenot, one of the guys we got from Baltimore for Sammy Sosa, has been called up from AAA Iowa.
RUDY MEOLI AWARD: The Rudy Meoli Award for poor performance by a Cubs infielder to Nomar Garciaparra. Garciaparra went 0 for 5 with 2 strikeouts yesterday.
KASPER THE BORING GHOST: During the game yesterday Len Kasper, the man who makes sleeping pills obsolete, informed us he and Bob Brenly got a great (actually it was stupid) e-mail from a fan who suggested if the Cubs win 90 games this season or win 10 in a row, Brenly should shave his mustache and Kasper grow one. Kasper and Brenly yakked about it for a few minutes and now I am sure we will have to hear about this stupid mustache contest all year long. Ugh.
What the e-mailer should have asked was if the Cubs win 90 games this season or if the Cubs win 10 games in a row, will Len Kasper put some excitement in his voice or at least raise it a notch from his usual monotone delivery?
