2004 WORLD SERIES PREDICTION: Back when the playoffs began I predicted a St. Louis Cardinals vs. Boston Red Sox matchup in the World Series and here it is. I thought my Red Sox pick was going to be another bad prediction when they fell behind 3 games to zero against the New York Yankees. Somehow they overcame the curse of the Bambino and the curse of me picking them to win the ALCS. St. Louis struggled with Houston more than I thought they would but Carlos Beltran was amazing for the Astros. I have picked St. Louis to win the World Series over Boston since the playoffs began and I am sticking with them to win. I do this despite the Cardinals having three ex-Cubs (Ray King, Julian Tavares, Tony Womack) on their roster. The Red Sox meanwhile sort of have three ex-Cubs, but only two who played for the Cubs. Two (Mark Bellhorn, Bill Mueller) definitely count and one (Doug Mientkiewicz) was briefly a Cub when the Twins traded him to the Cubs for minor leaguer Justin Jones, then the Cubs traded him to Boston along with SS Alex Gonzalez, and minor leaguers Francis Beltran and Brendan Harris for SS Nomar Garciaparra and minor leaguer Matt Murton. Since Mientkiewicz never played for the Cubs, he really is not an ex-Cub. Therefore the Red Sox in reality only have two ex-Cubs. With two ex-Cubs being the limit, logically I should pick the Red Sox but I am picking the Cardinals to win the World Series.
