NOMAR TRADE: Hello police? I would like to report a theft by the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs trade for shortstop Nomar Garciaparra, minor league outfielder Matt Murton, and cash for shortstop Alex Gonzalez, minor leaguers Brendan Harris, Francis Beltran, and Justin Jones is a great deal for the Cubs. The Cubs upgraded substantially at shortstop and gave up no one of value on the major league roster. In reality we traded only two prospects because we are getting one back in Murton (A 1st round sandwich pick of Boston's in 2003). This is a no-lose situation for the Cubs. If at the end of season we are able to sign Garciaparra, great. If he leaves, we will get two draft picks for him which will replace the two prospects we traded away.

SATURDAY'S GAME VS. PHILADELPHIA: Another hard luck performance by Matt Clement. Twice Clement gave up home runs after the Cubs infield committed errors, but Clement pitched well in giving up just four hits, two earned runs, while striking out ten over seven innings. The Cubs offense was silent again, getting only three hits. The Cubs fell short 4-3.

RUDY MEOLI AWARD: The Rudy Meoli Award for poor performance by a Cubs infielder to Todd Walker. Walker went 0 for 4, made an error, and did not catch a foul ball which he should have been able to get to.
