CUBS REACH ROOFTOP DEAL: The Chicago Cubs have reached an agreement with eleven of the thirteen rooftop owners. The Cubs will get about $2 million a year from the rooftop owners. Good news for the Cubs. The comment that irks me in the Chicago Tribune article is, "It's an amazing deal for the Cubs. They are just handed $2 million for doing nothing." Actually the Cubs are getting paid $2 million to agree to allow others to charge for seeing the Cubs' product. Full disclosure, I am a Tribune Company stockholder. What was an amazing deal for doing almost nothing was the rooftop owners charging to see the Cubs. CITY OF CHICAGO MAY FORCE CUBS TO FIX TRAFFIC: According to the Chicago Tribune the city of Chicago may push the Cubs to cure traffic headaches. How about letting the Cubs build some parking garages near Wrigley Field? SLEZAK ON ROOFTOP DEAL: Carol Slezak had a column in yesterday's Chicago Sun-Times on the rooftop deal. Carol wrote, "The lawsuit seemed a byproduct of the Cubs' failure to get approval for their Wrigley Field expansion plan. City hall was giving the Cubs fits, and they took out their anger on the rooftop owners." Slezak makes it look like the Cubs decided to pick on some innocent bystander. Where has Slezak been? The rooftop owners have been the leading opponents of the Wrigley Field expansion! CLEMENS SIGNS WITH ASTROS: Roger Clemens will not retire after all. Clemens signed a one-year deal with the Houston Astros on Monday. The Cubs fan in me is not thrilled the Astros have added another good pitcher. The baseball fan in me is glad. Clemens is one of the best pitchers of all-time, he is still a great pitcher, and I am glad we will continue to see him pitch in Major League Baseball. |
