FRIDAY'S GAME VS. CINCINNATI: When the Cubs jumped out to a 5-0 lead with Kerry Wood on the mound one had to figure the Cubs were going to win this game with ease. But with the score 5-1 Cubs in the top of the seventh, the Cubs bullpen gave the Reds five runs to give the Reds a 6-5 lead. A rain delay in the bottom of the seventh delayed the game for 49 minutes but then the Cubs clawed their way back, getting four singles to scratch out a 7-6 lead which they held on to for the victory.
MEL ROJAS AWARD 1: The Mel Rojas Award for poor relief pitching by a Cubs reliever to Mark Guthrie. Guthrie pitched zero innings, giving up three hits, and three earned runs.
MEL ROJAS AWARD 2: The Mel Rojas Award for poor relief pitching by a Cubs reliever to Antonio Alfonseca. Alfonseca pitched one inning, giving up two hits, and two earned runs.
CHIPMUNK: In the bottom of the sixth inning Reds relief pitcher Juan Cerros came into pitch for the Reds. Chip informed us, "Cerros makes his first appearance of the series." No kidding Chip. It was the first game of the series!
