ROSTER MOVE BAYLOR WANTS TO MAKE: According to Monday's Chicago Sun-Times Don Baylor is lobbying Andy McPhail to bring up another relief pitcher (which we really do not need) and get rid of Robert Machado so Don Baylor can play Todd Hundley and Joe Girardi more! Not only is Machado by far the Cubs best defensive catcher he is the best offensive one as well. So far this season: MACHADO: 27 ABs, .333 AVG, .956 OPS; HUNDLEY: 22 ABs, .182 AVG, .633 OPS; GIRARDI: 38 ABs, .158 AVG, .342 OPS. Unreal. Apparently Don Baylor is not content just being a lousy manager he now wants to extend his incompetence to being GM as well. It is time the Cubs did themselves a favor before Baylor does any more damage, FIRE DON BAYLOR! BAYLOR'S MANAGING: In Game 1 of the DH vs. the Dodgers, Cubs trail 2-1 in the bottom of the 7th, Mark Bellhorn leads off the bottom of the 7th with a double which brings up Robert Machado. What does Baylor have Machado do? Attempt a bunt! A guy who almost never bunts, bunt happy Baylor makes bunt. Machado misses and Bellhorn is caught off 2nd and tagged out in a run down. Machado should be able to hit the ball to the right side to get Bellhorn to third, but Baylor decides to have his catcher attempt a bunt. Terrible. Then in the top of the ninth with the score still 2-1 LA, Baylor leaves the lefty Jeff Fassero in with two guys on and the right handed Brian Jordan at the plate. Needless to say Fassero has been awful so far this year but Baylor leaves him in give up a three run home run. More bad managing by Baylor. SUNDAY DOUBLEHEADER: Cubs get swept by the Dodgers in a doubleheader at Wrigley. Cruz pitched ok through six innings in Game 1. Hitting almost non-existent in both games. |
