SUNDAY'S GAME VS. PITTSBURGH: Thank goodness we did not see LaTroy Hawkins on Sunday. Without him we were able to hang onto a 5-2 lead to win. Kerry Wood continues to be a worry but hopefully he is going to be ok.

SATURDAY'S GAME VS. PITTSBURGH: The weather at Wrigley yesterday would have been great for a Bears game, alas the Cubs were playing instead. Baseball in the snow. Yikes. Double yikes to seeing LaTroy Hawkins come into the game. Anyway, Greg Maddux pitched pretty good except for the seventh when he gave up two runs. The Cubs bats were a little frozen, like the weather, but did manage three runs to have a 3-2 lead going into the top of the ninth when LaTroy Hawkins came in. I saw LaTroy was coming in and said, "We're doomed." Sure enough Hawkins gave up a game tying home run to Jason Bay and then the Pirates scored again to take a 4-3 lead which they held onto. The only good news to come out of the game was apparently Dusty Baker has finally figured out LaTroy cannot be the closer for this team and will give the ball to somebody else in the ninth.

MEL ROJAS AWARD: The Mel Rojas Award for bad relief pitching by a Cubs reliever to LaTroy Hawkins. Hawkins once again blew the save and the game yesterday. Hawkins gave up the game tying home run and put the go ahead run on base who eventually scored. Hawkins line: 2/3 of an inning, 1 hit (a home run), 1 walk, 2 earned runs.

PRESTON GOMEZ AWARD: The Preston Gomez Award for bad managing by a Cubs manager to Dusty Baker. In the eighth inning yesterday the Cubs led 3-2, Derrek Lee was on second base with one out. Jason Dubois who was 2 for 3 with a double was up. Baker pitch hit Jose Macias who was 1 for 12 this season. Macias grounded out to shortstop.
