FRIDAY'S GAME AT ST. LOUIS: Cubs waste a good performance by Kerry Wood as the relief corps walk in the losing run to lose 4-3.

MONDAY AND TUESDAY'S GAMES AT ARIZONA: SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Nothing bores me more than watching the Cubs play listless baseball. The Cubs have been so bad and boring the last two games they make a Jay Mariotti column look halfway interesting. Pathetic performance by the Cubs as they lose 9-0 and 10-1 to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Nothing more to say other than the Cubs look like a completely different team than the one that swept the Pittsburgh Pirates and the New York Mets.

PRESTON GOMEZ AWARD: SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Preston Gomez Award for bad managing to Dusty Baker. In Monday's game in the bottom of the fourth inning, with two outs, Arizona had Danny Bautista on second and catcher Robby Hammock at the plate. Hammock is rarely confused with Johnny Bench (after the game Hammock was batting .167). Baker decided to intentionally walk Hammock to get to pitcher Randy Johnson. Johnson singled to right to score Bautista. Matt Kata then singled to score Hammock. I know the book says to walk Hammock but with Hammock not hitting why not pitch to him? If he makes an out (which is likely) the Cubs would have had the pitcher leading off the next inning.

SUNDAY'S GAME VS. NEW YORK METS: Great performance yesterday by Matt Clement. Clement had a no-hitter through 6 1/3 innings even with the wind blowing out. Clement pitched eight innings, giving up two hits and one earned run. Offense looking good. Borowski looked like the 2003 Borowski yesterday. All good news for Cubs fans.
