FRIDAY'S GAME AT COLORADO: Mark Prior pitched a brilliant game in the thin air of Denver. Prior also hit his first career home run. Corey Patterson had a two-run homerun as well.

WEDNESDAY'S GAME VS. SAN DIEGO: Adam Eaton pitched an outstanding game for San Diego as he shutout the Cubs 2-0. Kerry Wood struck out eleven, and gave up only five hits to the Padres but was wild at times. The Cubs had chances to score but never took advantage of them. Most annoying of all was Moises Alou striking out twice on pitches nowhere near the strikezone.
7TH INNING MUTING: The seventh inning stretch "celebrities" reached a new low on Wednesday. The Cubs had Jane Seymour, who probably thinks Hee Seop Choi is Korean food, sing the Take Me Out To The Ballgame. Then she spent the bottom of the seventh promoting a book she has out. Ugh. I have come to the point where when these "celebrities" come on I am going to hit the mute button so I no longer have to listen to them butcher Take Me Out To The Ballgame and promote whatever junk they have out.

SORRY: Sorry I have not updated since early in the season. I am very impressed with the first place Cubs.
TUESDAY'S GAME VS. SAN DIEGO: An impressive performance by Carlos Zambrano and timely hitting gave the Cubs a 7-2 win over the Padres at a freezing Wrigley Field. The Cubs scored seven runs on only four hits.
SUNDAY'S GAME AT PITTSBURGH: A rather dismal game for the Cubs. The Pirates took batting practice against Shawn Estes while the Cubs' defense was poor. Sammy Sosa hit a home run off Josh Fogg in the first and then got hit in the head by Solomon Torres the next time up. I was glad to see Juan Cruz hit Torres in the knee when Torres batted in the sixth. The message had to be sent.
CHIPMUNK: After the end of the
top of the fifth inning on Sunday, Chip said, "The fifth inning is in the book."
