HUNDLEY MAY GO ON DL: Todd Hundley who has had a bad left thumb, dislocated it on Saturday and may go on the disabled list when Moises Alou is activated. CLEMENT'S OUTING: Very good outing by Matt Clement. 12 Ks. But lost it a little in the seventh but not as bad as when he lost it in the sixth last week. If this guy can put it together like it looks like he is starting to we are going to have good pitching and it will only be a matter of time before the bats come back to life. Hope. Hope. SATURDAY'S GAME: Cubs lose 3-2. Once again the Cubs got good pitching but the Cubs hitters are still in their winter hibernation mode. Wake up guys! Especially you Fred McGriff. CUP OF JOE: Joe Carter had another nugget of wisdom on Friday night. Joe informed us viewers that "Giles comes from down the river in Cleveland." Now Joe I know you only played 5 1/2 years in Cleveland but the Ohio River flows past Cincinnati not Cleveland. THE CHIPSTER: In the top of the second Mario Encarnacion hit into a groundout for the Cubs. Encarnacion was obviously out but Chip said, "Not in time [LONG PAUSE] is Encarnacion." Just another example of Chip's odd broadcasting style. SAMMY'S BOMB: If Sammy hits a bomb like that shot to dead center Friday night in every game in which he makes a defensive mistake we can live with the defensive mistakes. SOME THOUGHTS FROM FRIDAY NIGHT'S GAME: In the bottom of second inning the Pittsburgh Pirates had runners on first and third. A somewhat deep flyball is hit to Sammy Sosa in right and Sosa decides to try and throw out the runner on third Brian Giles at home which allowed Rios the chance to tag up and move from first to second. Why Sammy did you think you had a chance to get Giles? WELCOME TO TOM SMITH'S CUBS BLOG: This is going to be a blog that I have started to discuss my thoughts on the Chicago Cubs and other topics in baseball. In terms of full disclosure I am a Tribune Company shareholder so I am part owner of the Chicago Cubs. |
